While G. K. Warren was stymied by JEB Stuart's unexpected soldiers, General A.P. Hill was leading an entire Corps of Confederate infantry towards Bristoe Station.
Starting October 14 near New Baltimore, Hill's Corps swung onto Vint Hill Road. At Greenwich, Hill's soldiers started to encounter stragglers from the Federal III Corps. Without cavalry delivering timely, and accurate information, Hill would have an incomplete picture of Federals for most of October 14th.
