6. Buckland - The Buckland Races

Once safely behind his entrenchments at Centreville, George Meade was content to allow Lee to attack him.  Seeing the Federal army behind the heavy fortifications, Lee decided not to attack.

When the Federal army retreated, they burned the railroad bridge over the Rappahannock River.  Without a direct railroad link to his base of supplies and with Northern Virginia devastated by 3 years of war, Lee decided to retreat back Central Virginia.  While
